Introducing Nelson
Bristol Morris Men are blessed (maybe not the right word), with two animals. We know a lot about
Horse and his antics, much less about the shadowy Nelson - so called because he is a one eyed
stag. We know that Nelson is much older than horse (who is 30 in 2009), and we believe that he was
created by Dave Light a member of BMM in the late 1960s, that he is much taller, that he has an eye patch
to cover his lost eye, and that he has very sharp antlers (are you listening Horse?), also that he 'disappeared'
for many years when Horse came onto the scene. He is back, stabled in Nigel Cooke's garage! Making a
first appearance at Banbury in 2003, where he made friends with Sandy.
Nelson also discovered that he is not the only stag on the block! Nelson returned to Banbury Hobby Horse festival
in 2004 - whilst Horse was off chasing Esel (donkeys) in Hannover.
