By 1996 Horse had been mauled by many thousands of small hands, his head was broken
in several places, and the leather skin was falling apart. If he was to survive,
(and, heaven forbid not go to the knackers yard) then
a major operation was essential. We called in the local fully qualified and caring
Horse Doctor and he set to work to repair the damage.

Whilst Horse missed coming out on May Day, he soon reappeared for his young fans in the late spring.

Bristol MM visited Silkeborg later in the year, and Horse met one of his old
friends - Ilmington Horse. The Ilmington Horse nearly had a watery grave at the
hands of these reprobates! Recognise them?

And, what an honour! The year ended with a real highnote,
Horse now has a fine beer, named in his honour and brewed by Master Brewer Nigel Farmer
of Farmer's Ales. A Fine Pint Nigel! {Postscript 2008:
alas Dark Horse is no longer brewed but try the Maldon Oyster Stout}
